Communication-The Key to YOUR Future!

What is Toastmasters

Toastmasters is a worldwide non-profit organization dedicated to improving Communication through the art of Public Speaking. It is a mutually supportive group of men and women from all walks of life and all levels of Public Speaking skills. Everyone in Toastmasters wants you to succeed.

In the Basic Communications & Leadership Manual you'll learn how to become comfortable in front of an audience and project confidence and sincerity. You will also learn the basics of Word Selection and Vocal Variety (without which, in technical presentations, we'd all fall asleep!) You'll also learn about Non-Verbal Communication (Body Language) and how to utilize it. You'll also learn to Motivate and Inspire your audience.

In addition to teaching you the Basic Communication & Leadership skills, we offer a wide range of specialized manuals ranging from Technical Presentations to Sales and Marketing to Storytelling to becoming a Professional Speaker. Each manual is self-paced and is designed so that one speech builds upon the skills you've previously developed. Each speech a Toastmaster gives is Evaluated by another Toastmaster in a supportive environment. Unlike the Speech class you may have taken in High School or college, our Evaluations focus on the positive aspects of your Public Speaking skills, with a few tips on areas you might need to work on.

A few of the benefits include:

-Overcoming your FEAR of Public Speaking.
-Learn to actively listen and 'read your audience'.
-Learn how to construct your presentations to fit your audience.
-Learning how to give a good presentation every time.
-Learn how to design and use Visual Aids properly.
-Dues for Harris employees are paid for by most of the Departments, with the requirement of regular attendance and active participation.

If you think (or if you've been told) you need to improve your Oral Communications skills, here's the place to improve them.
